Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation
In this ADHD presentation, clinically meaningful hyperactive and impulsive symptoms are more prominent than inattentive symptoms during the current assessment period.

Understanding the topic
Hyperactivity and impulsivity
Hyperactivity is not simply enthusiasm, and impulsivity is not a moral failing. Clinicians consider whether patterns are persistent, developmentally unexpected, present across settings, and impairing.
- fidgeting or restlessness
- difficulty remaining seated when expected
- difficulty waiting
- interrupting or intruding
- acting before thinking through consequences
- excessive talking in some contexts
Everyday context
Changes across age
Young children may show more visible movement. Teenagers and adults may describe an internal sense of restlessness, a need to stay busy, impatience, or difficulty pausing before responding.
The current presentation can change over time; it is not an immutable personality type.
Assessment and support
Individual assessment
A qualified professional considers context, developmental expectations, impairment, and overlapping conditions. Management may combine clinical care, behavioral support, education, and practical environmental structure.
